Craig will be joined by Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke will fill the void left by Bruno Tonioli.

But you can’t help but think that a familiar North East Lincolnshire face is missing from Strictly?

That’s right – that’s Kevin Clifton from Grimsby.

The former Caistor Grammar School student is a strict favorite whose show career began as a professional dancer in 2013.

To say the least, he never looked back from that point on.

Having fallen in love with Sir Bruce Forsyth during his time on the show, Kevin has become a familiar and lovable face on the show over the course of his seven years.

He quickly found his way into the heart of the nation with partners including Susanna Reid, Frankie Bridge and Louise Redknapp.

The dancing seems to work in Clifton’s house because Joanne, Kevin’s sister, also featured as a professional dancer and won the contest with Ore Oduba in 2016.

Joanne left the show in 2017 to pursue a career in musical theater.

And ‘Kevin from Grimsby’ followed in his sister’s footsteps by winning the famous glitterball trophy in 2018 with then-dance partner Stacey Dooley.

In fact, the tension on the dance floor was too much for the couple, and they quickly started dating.

Stacey and Kevin have now been a couple since 2019.

Sadly, Kevin announced in March of last year that he would not be returning to the Saturday Night Show because he wanted to focus on other career endeavors.

He was supposed to play his dream role on the West-End show, Strictly Ballroom, but then the pandemic struck.

However, the Grimsby star didn’t rule out a return to Strictly by saying “never say never”.

Would it be exciting to see Kevin return to the show next year?

But for now, Kevin is focusing on his theatrical career after starring in the production of Singin ‘in the Rain at the London Well’s Theater.

The 1952 film classic has a treasured place hidden in our hearts as Gene Kelly walks this drenched American street singing that iconic tune.

The show ran from Friday July 30 to Sunday September 5.

Kevin Says 1952 Classic Singin ‘in the Rain is One of the Most Iconic Musicals in Movie History

Kevin starred as Cosmo Brown in the theatrical production – played by Donald O’Connor in the film.

Speaking to Loose Women about the role, Kevin said, “I’ve seen Singin ‘in the Rain hundreds of times. It is one of the most iconic musicals if not the most iconic in the history of cinema.

“We were watching it on Christmas Day and Stacey told me they should do a show with this movie. I told her it was a big deal and a huge show but she told me when they would do it again the show, I should be playing Cosmo. I told him I would love it because the character plays such an iconic role.

“I watched the routine of making people laugh on Youtube so many times and then a few months later my agent called me and asked me what I thought about playing the part of Cosmo in Singin ‘in the Rain ?

Former Strictly star doesn’t rule out a return to the show one day

“I said to my agent ‘it’s funny you say like Stacey told me I should play it’. I went for an audition, I wasn’t sure which way it would go. Stacey believed. in me that I would get the part and here I am ready to play Cosmo.

Kevin adds that he wanted to make the role his own, rather than caricature of Donald O’Connor’s adorable performance.

The former Strictly star said, “I think you have to play your own version of Cosmo. What you don’t want to do is try to make an impression of Donald O’Connor.

“You have to find your own version of the character. Plus, climbing a wall and turning around eight times a week can be pretty dangerous. It’s raining on the stages, there’s about six thousand gallons on the floor and we’re wading through it. “

As a natural performer, Kevin couldn’t wait to get back on stage.

He explains, “It’s amazing and I appreciate it more now. I’ve always loved being on stage and I think for a lot of performers it’s really part of who you are.

“For artists your identity is so wrapped up that during the pandemic the question has been who am I even without it? What do I do with my life now? audience is magnificent again.

As Kevin ages, he feels more comfortable acting and being himself – rather than looking for the role for a role.

Kevin insists, “I was never the guy who looks perfect all the time to be honest and I used to worry about that stuff. I wish I had been a little taller and I wish I had eight sit-ups and tanned.

“I think as I get older I feel more comfortable in my own skin and I don’t have to be Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly’s character in Singin ‘in the Rain) because I can play Cosmo. Brown and this is I. As I got older though, I accepted that you don’t have to be a certain weight to be an actor, singer or dancer.

The Grimsby dancer goes on to declare his love for Strictly and a potential return someday in the future.

He adds, “It’s quite nerve-racking to date 12 million people on a Saturday night. I love the show and Strictly Come Dancing has been a part of my life for seven years. I still love it and there is still a part of me that says never say never come back to it.

“Maybe even in a different role, who knows? But right now it’s all drama for me. If any of the other judges wish to step aside, I’d be happy to become a judge on Strictly Come Dancing.”

One thing is for sure – fans would love to see ‘Kevin of Grimsby’ in the bright lights as he is one day announced as a potential new judge on Strictly.
