Bright Skies crowned Dulux Colour of the Year 2022 by trend experts at world first virtual summit

Dulux has announced its Color of the Year for 2022 as Bright Skies ™, an airy light blue that perfectly captures that hopeful mood of the moment.

Chosen at a virtual summit for the first time by world leaders in design, fashion and color, Bright Skies ™ can bring any living space to life and is good for the soul by embodying a breath of fresh air.

For the 19th year in a row, Dulux has brought together leaders in design, fashion, color and the built environment to examine trends, innovations and events that would impact the way we all live and work. . For the first time in its history, the group met online for the first virtual summit.

The color experts at Dulux then distilled the results into a single color, Bright Skies ™, to breathe life and hope into any living space.

Bright Skies ™ is considered the popular color trend for the next year. It is expected to dominate home office decor as millions of people embrace hybrid home and office work models.

Marianne Shillingford, Creative Director of Dulux UK, says: “Right now people want to feel revitalized and enjoy the freedoms they are entitled to, to watch and to bring in new ideas. What better inspiration can we take than the endless skies around us?

“It is well known that nature makes us feel better and taking steps to bring the outdoors in improves our sense of well-being. “

Bright Skies ™ is supported by four color palettes – Greenhouse, Living Room, Studio and Workshop – that will inspire and facilitate decorating projects in all types of rooms.

Greenhouse is full of fresh greens and blues that serve as the perfect backdrop to bring nature into a room, in the form of plants and natural materials such as bark or cork.

Salon is a catalyst for fresh ideas and creative thinking. Consciously pale and soft, this palette is for those who want a flexible, versatile and comfortable room or home.

Studio spaces seek to soothe, with a mix of pale pinks, reds, and oranges. Subtle and inspiring, decorating with this palette is a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

L’Atelier allows people to create flexible spaces that reinvent the home. Whether it’s zoning a versatile space such as a studio or decorating a home office, it’s clear, positive colors that put “fun” into the functional.

Heleen van Gent, Head of AkzoNobel’s Global Aesthetics Center, says: “Over the past 19 years we have seen a dramatic shift from a focus on lighter tones to an emphasis on neutrals.

“This year, vivid colors and light tones are resurfacing, reflecting, perhaps, our need for positivity and a new approach. After a period of confinement, we thirst for expansion and the outdoors.

Dulux partner furniture retailer DFS has produced a range of Bright Skies ™ upholstery fabrics including a sofa and complementary cushions in palette colors.

Kitchen appliance maker Stoves, meanwhile, created their Richmond Deluxe range cooker collection in Bright Skies ™ color as the centerpiece of a modern kitchen.

Dulux Color of the Year 2022 Bright Skies ™ is available from September 14, 2021, in a specially designed single box that features a new branding to distinguish it from the rest of the Dulux range.
